  3. Vocabulary: A competent teacher should have a rich and varied vocabulary, enabling them to express ideas clearly and accurately in diverse conversational contexts.

  4. Grammar: While conversation tends to be less formal, a good grasp of grammar rules is essential to ensure that the teacher can provide accurate and correct language models to their students.

  5. Cultural Awareness: Understanding cultural nuances and norms related to language use is crucial for effective communication. A competent teacher should be sensitive to cultural differences and adapt their teaching approach accordingly.

3B-304  5. BEGINNERS' ENGLISH

For teaching beginners English, the nationality of the teacher may not be as crucial as their proficiency in the language and their ability to effectively employ teaching methodologies suited to beginners' needs. While being a native speaker of the language can offer certain advantages, such as natural fluency and cultural insights, it is not necessarily a requirement for teaching beginners.

The Direct Method, which emphasizes immersive and communicative language learning without the use of translation, can be highly effective for beginners regardless of the teacher's nationality. What matters most is the teacher's skill in using this method to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where beginners can build confidence, practice speaking, and develop their language skills through meaningful interactions.

A competent teacher for beginners should possess the following qualities and abilities:

  1. Clear Expression Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, using simple language and gestures to ensure understanding.

  2. Patience and Empathy: Demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding towards beginners who may struggle with language barriers and lack confidence.

  3. Structured and Progressive Lessons: Designing structured and progressive lessons that introduce language concepts gradually and scaffold learning to build upon previous knowledge.

  4. Interactive Teaching Methods: Employing interactive teaching methods such as role-plays, games, and real-life scenarios to engage beginners and make learning enjoyable.

  5. Focus on Speaking and Listening: Prioritizing speaking and listening skills in lessons to help beginners develop oral communication skills and gain confidence in using English conversationally.

  6. Visual Aids: Using visual aids, real life objects, and multimedia resources to support comprehension and reinforce language concepts.

  7. Encouragement and Positive Reinforcement: Providing encouragement, positive reinforcement, and constructive feedback to motivate beginners and build their confidence in using English.

While being a native speaker can offer certain advantages, a non-native English teacher who is proficient in the language and possesses the qualities mentioned above can be equally effective in teaching beginners English using the Direct Method or other appropriate teaching approaches. Ultimately, the focus should be on the teacher's ability to create a supportive and effective learning environment that facilitates beginners' language acquisition and development.

3C Which messaging platform are you currently using!

There are literally hundreds of ways to go online with students. The main ones used by TeacherTeacher.Asia, over the past 15 years, has been:

LINE  •  SKYPE  •  VIBER  •  ZOOM

You are free to use any platform that is acceptable to your client, the student. LINE is widely used, not only in Japan, but also in Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia. Most students (at this time) reside in Japan and Thailand and mostly use; Line, Zoom, Skype, and Viber, in that order.

It is probably best for you to let the student know which platforms you are happy to use, and make this information available on your profile.

The ones you list will show on your profile. Students booking with you may ask you to use something else. It would be to your advantage to oblige them, if you can.

Take not that ZOOM only permits up to 40 minutes on their free service. This is not an issue if you teach in single 30-minutes tuition sessions. However if you have 2 x 30-minute sessions back to back, you will have to pay (eventually) or break the two sessions with a quick disconnect and rejoin.

WHICH MESSAGING APP?

You can list them all, if you wish, but be prepared to have a student using that messenger app to contact you.

You're offering to be available for teaching online for these hours each week!

Changes can be made but with good notice!

15 Select your base rate, in the local currency of the students
(per 30 min. lesson)     Choose from Level 1 to Level 8!

YOUR BASE RATE AND AVAILABILITY HOURS

  • You have the flexibility to adjust your tariff level. This can be changed at any time.

  • Once a lesson has been booked by a student at a certain tariff rate, the rate for those booked lessons cannot be altered.

  • Lessons are scheduled to start on the half-hour - or on the hour - and last for 30 minutes, concluding at the end of the 30 minutes session.

  • The change over to a waiting next student should be accomplished without any undue delay. This system has been working successfully for more than 12 years and many prefer it to a full hour's session.

The inherent commission structure within TeacherTeacher.Asia.

  • The funds are utilized to attract more students and to ensure ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the platform.

  • Upon conducting a tuition session (a 30-minute lesson) with a new student, TeacherTeacher.Asia retains a commission, for which you should allows for a deduction of between 17% and 38%, depending on your current teacher category (Accredited, Verified, Long-Serving, etc.) and the number of lessons you accumulate in total.

  • TeacherTeacher.Asia applies a commission percentage based on the 30-minute rate for each lesson.

  • As the number of teaching hours increases, the commission rate gradually decreases, offering teachers a progressively higher earning rate. See the commissions rates in the following section.

LEVEL 2.png

Rates are reduced from 3% up to 15% at time of purchase, depending on the number of 30-minute sessions pre-purchased.

LEVEL 3.png

  • Choose your teaching half-hourly
    (30 minutes) teaching rate.
See the 8 different half-hourly rates.

LEVEL 4.png

Below is the MID-RANGE Level 4

You can select Level 4, or any of the other lesson-rates.

These are the fees the student pays. The base rate for level 4 is 390 Thai baht per 30 minutes. (corresponds to 780 Thai baht per hour)

780 baht/hr = US $22/hr = GB £18/hr

390 baht/½hr = US $11/½hr = GB £18/½hr

The lesson-rates are discounted when fixed quantities of lessons are purchased for a single and specified teacher.

After purchasing a quantity of half-hour sessions, the student is issued with lesson-codes with which they can book lessons, depending on the teacher's schedule (timetable). This schedule shows the times the teacher is available. Students can book for a 30-minute or a 60-minute lesson.

PLEASE NOW SELECT ONE LESSON-RATE LEVEL, on the field, below.

Remember, this rate can be change later, as explained above.

Thai students will only see the Thai baht rate level you have selected.

N. B. Rates paid to teachers may be reduced from 3% up to 15% at time of purchase, due to bulk buying. However this does give an assurance of the student continuing with the same teacher.

The first 3 to 9 lessons are all priced at one lesson rate. Teachers are all paid close to 600 baht/hr.

600 baht/hr is approx. US $16.30/hr or GB £12.80/hr. After these launching sessions, the teacher sets the tariff. As shown below.
